The job of HVAC Technician is established for the purpose/s of providing HVAC services with specific responsibility for identifying repair and/or replacement needs; installing, repairing, maintaining and upgrading HVAC systems and equipment.

  • Coordinates with Customer Service Representatives for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
  • Maintains company vehicle, tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring availability in safe operating condition
  • Diagnoses problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs
  • Participates in meetings, training, and seminars, as assigned for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform job functions
  • Informs Customer Service Representatives regarding procedures and/or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and/or complying with building and safety regulations
  • Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status, system notes, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information
  • Inspects HVAC systems and their components (e.g. heating units, building exhaust fans, ventilation units etc.) for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance, performs routine and preventative maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing function of HVAC systems and performs repairs on heating and air conditioning systems and/or components (e.g. pumps, motors, fan coils, piping, etc.)
  • Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate operational concerns
  • Transports a variety of tools, equipment and supplies for the purpose of ensuring availability of materials required at job site
  • Installs heating and air conditioning equipment and systems for the purpose of providing enhanced and/or upgrade capabilities
  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective function of the work unit


  • Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the include: operating equipment used in the installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC equipment and preparing and maintaining accurate records in company’s computer system
  • Must be able to work under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods
  • Job related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired
  • Valid Driver’s License; Minimum 2 – 3 years of experience in HVAC maintenance, Universal EPA Refrigeration Certificate


  • Possess a working knowledge of the above titled position and how it relates to the overall business and its’ objectives
  • Must be dependable and able to work independently
  • Must conform to company policies and procedures and meet company goals and objectives as well as protect the company assets and interests
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds (ONLY IF JOB REQUIRES) and able to bend and twist several times a day
  • Must have a current driver’s license and acceptable driving record per Cat5’s insurance carrier standard if driving company vehicle (ONLY IF JOB REQUIRES)
  • Must have the ability to work flexible hours, days, travel and stay overnight
  • Must be able to pass and maintain drug and alcohol testing requirements
  • Ability to maintain a professional appearance, promote and maintain a clean, neat and safe work environment
  • Must be computer literate, a Windows based environment preferred (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Access, Outlook)
  • Possess troubleshooting skills and have the ability to effectively operate basic shop equipment
  • DOT Medical Card required
